An orchestra like Anima Eterna Brugge would be inconceivable without the loyal efforts of various excellent musicians. They are invited to participate on a project to project basis. Not only do they bring their specific period instruments with them, but also their talent, expertise and years of experience as historically informed performers. Time after time, the unique sound of the ensemble is moulded in their hands – or between their lips for that matter.
The musicians of Anima Eterna Brugge gather in various set-ups according to the needs of the repertoire and the required specialism. The composition of the groups is often a joint decision by the conductor, the concert master and other group leader in order to gather the best possible combination of the best possible musicians for that repertoire. There’s musicians playing from all over the world, living nearby and far away, who come together for each production.
All members of the group work together to uncover the secrets of the piece, each with his or her own expertise, instrument and personal relationship to the music. In this musical collaboration, magic is born. In the process, any possible discrepancy between artistic license and historical necessity disappears.
While this investigative attitude determines the essence of our approach, an equally (if not more) important factor is the curiosity, the passion, and the exceptional commitment of both musicians and conductor to the kernel of our music-making.
