Cello studies at the Royal College of Music; A First in Music (BA Hons) from Bristol University (1982); Edward VII Foundation scholar (1984) for postgraduate cello studies at the Hochschule for Music, Cologne, teacher Boris Pergamenshikov. Setting out from his interest in contemporary music, he embarked on courses and tuition in baroque and period performance practice, teachers including Anner Bylsma and Hidemi Suzuki.
A member or regular guest member of various ensembles and period orchestras, including „Les Adieux, Cologne“, „Musica Alta Ripa, Hanover“, „Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik“, „Collegium Cartusianum, Cologne“, „Akademie für Alte Musik,Berlin“, „Concerto Köln“,
„La Stagione, Frankfurt, Concerto con Anima and the orchestra„Anima Eterna Belgium“. His recordings of a wide variety of classical chamber music and as continuo cellist to singers and soloists testify to an abiding interest in all forms of musical expression. These are enhanced by solo performances which also explore the relationship of western music with poetry from other cultural backgrounds. He is a member of the Pleyel Quartet Cologne and a course tutor at the Summer Academy for Baroque Cello of the Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik.
