Jan Huylebroeck

Jan Huylebroeck, born in Ostend (Belgium) in 1956, pianist, percussionist-timpanist and arranger-composer started his professional carreer in 1975.

He combined a full scedule of stagework with pianoteaching until 1985. As a piano-soloist, he performed several concerto’s with orchestral accompaniment. He also worked out a solid reputation as accompanist for songrecitals and competitions.

After 10 years, Jan Huylebroeck ceased his carreer as a pianoteacher and became pianist-accompanist at the Music Conservatory at Bruges also playing for that purpose the cembalo, the pipe-organ and digital keyboards. Together with his eldest son Tijn, he owns the Bösendorfer Imperial build in 1885 and nicely restored, used for this recording.

As a timpanist, he started, after a period of 9 years in a regional symfonic orchesfra a freelance carreer with various orchestras (La Petite Bande and Anima Eterna) on historical insfruments.

Since september 2002 he became first timpanist and percussion-leader in the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. As a brass player he performs on ophicleide and serpent.

In 1985 he started to explore the possibilities of the synthesizer forming the Concerttrio (later a quartet) CD-LIVE in 1986, a group specialised in the musical aspect of the synth, not just the technical. The group was specialised in school-concerts but also frequently asked on evening-concert stages and musical performances. CD-Live splitted up in 2005.

Beside CD-Live, Jan Huylebroeck is well known as a member and the brain of Mannen Met Baarden (Men with Beards), a concert trio composed by a trumpetplayer,a clarinetplayer and Jan himself as a multi-instrumentalist. This trio is still active. He is a composer-arranger of repute, warmly appreciated for his live-sounding symphonical synthesizer orchesfrations, whose work extends to chambermusic, music for solo instruments, brassband and symphonic orchestra. For the RBVV Musical Company-Flanders-Belgium he took on the musical direction until 1997 and made all arrangements and orchesfrations of Jerry’s Girls, Broadway Baby, Hollywood by Night, Yours Anne, Sound of Music, Chess and Sacco & Vanzetti.

In the free time? Owns a pilot licence private pilot, drives diesel trains on a touristic railway, drives old historical buses and loves his old-timer Renault Dauphine build in 1963.
