Carmina Burana

Probably no other work in music history has inspired such polemic as Carl’ Orff’s scenic cantata Carmina Burana (1936): an energetic ode to life and love – adored by millions, deemed simple and bombastic by others. No wall of sound or mass of strings on this recording though: Anima Eterna Brugge returns to the score, turns up an impressive battery of percussionists and winds, and takes the stage with its exquisite musical partners for a transparent, sensuous and invigorating performance that breathes new life into a classical icon.
